self-esteem

What is self-esteem?
We use the phrase self-esteem to talk about the beliefs you have about yourself – what you think about the type of person you are, your abilities, the positive and negative things about you and what you expect for your future.
If you have healthy self-esteem, your beliefs about yourself will generally be positive. You may experience difficult times in your life, but you will generally be able to deal with these without them having too much of a long-term negative impact on you.
If you have low self-esteem, your beliefs about yourself will often be negative. You will tend to focus on your weaknesses or mistakes that you have made, and may find it hard to recognise the positive parts of your personality. You may also blame yourself for any difficulties or failures that you have.

People think I am confident because I can address a room full of people. The reality is that I spend most of my time thinking that I’m not good enough. If I... give a speech, I spend the next few days thinking about all the mistakes I made.

INVEST IN YOUR GIFT

How is the fulfilment of vision meant to work in practical terms? Proverbs 18:16 is a powerful statement that reveals the answer: "A man's gift makes room for him" (NKJV). What you were designed to be known for is your gift.
God has put a gift or talent in every person that the world will make room for.
It is this gift that will enable you to fulfil your vision
It will make a way for you in life. It is in exercising this gift that you will find real fulfilment, purpose, and contentment in your work.
It is interesting to note that the Bible does not say that a man's education makes room for him, but that his gift does.
Somehow we have swallowed the idea that education is the key to success. Our families and societies have reinforced this idea to us, but we will have to change our perspective if we are to be truly successful.
Education is not the key to success.

Ways We Complicate Life

These days, many people live stressful, complicated, hurried lives — going and going and going and sometimes getting nowhere. I’ve been there too, with so much to do with seemingly little time to do it. Trying to be in control and rushing from people to places to projects with good intentions to get it all done.

If you’re one of these many people, even if it’s just every now and then, you should know that there are a few ways we actually make life harder on ourselves. The reverse of this is also true. Undoing our stress can be the path to really living life right.

Perhaps the thing we need the most isn’t more things to do but a thorough cleaning of our mental, emotional, and physical to-do lists. When you’re doing so much in a day that you can’t remember anything you did and you don’t feel any better or more fulfilled having done it, then you are simply too busy and your life is too full and complicated.

Here are 21 ways we complicate life and how we can stop.

Practice gratitude – increase both happiness and life satisfaction

This is a seemingly simple strategy, but I’ve personally found it to make a huge difference to my outlook. There are lots of ways to practice gratitude, from keeping a journal of things you’re grateful for, sharing three good things that happen each day with a friend or your partner, and going out of your way to show gratitude when others help you.

NO LIMIT

My Grandmother was always encouraging me to set goals and work hard to achieve them. She would tell me not to be a follower and not to set limits on what I could achieve. She truly believed that there were no limits that you could achieve whatever you wanted.

She once told me the following story about a radish and a milk bottle, it was a story that I have never forgotten.

A Farmer's Lesson In Life

A farmer won a first prize at the country fair for his huge radish that was the exact shape and size of a quart of milk bottle. Many were curious as to how the farmer was able to grow this radish that was the exact shape of a milk bottle.

THE FUTURE

You need n’t be defined by your past. And certainly, your future does not have to look like your past, unless you allow it to.

Sure, certain parts of your past were great, but…

The popular kid isn’t necessarily popular now.
The college quarterback doesn’t always make it to the NFL.
The child actor often doesn’t make it to the big screen.

Conversely…

The high-school nerd became Bill Gates.
The freshman bench-rider became Michael Jordan.
The poverty-stricken, abused girl became Oprah.

Keys to Academic Success

Accept Responsibility
Remember that you alone are responsible for your academic achievement. Your instructor is your guide and your classmates may help you to understand your assignments; however, you are responsible for your own success.

Discipline Yourself
Discipline yourself to study everyday at least two hours or until you understand your assignment. Study to know and to understand, not merely to get a particular grade.

Manage Your Time
Manage your time well, so that you allow time for your personal responsibilities and time to study. Remember procrastination is a subtle thief that will steal your academic success.

Stay Ahead
Stay one or more chapters ahead in reading your textbook.

Help Yourself Then Ask for Help
If you are not keeping up in class, do all that you can do to help yourself to improve your academic performance. (For example: increase your study time, form a study group, study with a partner, and use all support services available to you at AMSC.) If you continue to experience difficulty, make an appointment with your instructors to talk about your academic performance.

Be Present and Prompt
Avoid being absent or tardy. You are required to attend classes from the first day that classes begin for the semester. Good attendance will give you first-hand knowledge of your instructors' comments and responses to questions. Also, good attendance shows

Don't Quit
Do not stop coming to class because of a personal crisis, problem, or frustration. AMSC faculty and staff can help you determine how to manage or cope with these situations. The Coordinator of Academic Advisement can tell you the best resource on campus to help you. If you stop coming to class you will earn an "F," which will lower your GPA.

Communicate with Instructors
If you cannot come to class because you are ill, notify your instructors. Try to make arrangements to make up your missed assignments.

Do Your Best
Only your best is good enough. Strive for "A's" and "B's," even if you have never earned "A's" and "B's

Diligently Work Until the End
Do not slow down after mid-semester. Work harder than you did at the beginning of the semester. Sustain your hard work until the end of the semester.

Use Support Services
Find out about AMSC's support services and use them. (i.e., Academic Support Center, Student Support Services, Office of Academic Advisement, Office of Counseling and Testing, and Learning Support Counselors.)

Prerequisites
A prerequisite is a course that must be successfully completed prior to enrollment in another course (See the AMSC catalog for prerequisites.)

Stay Focused
Focus on your academic goals. As far as possible, eliminate negative influences and distractions that may prevent you from reaching your goal.

A beautiful destination.

Life is full of wonderful things. We can pursue our passion, fall in love, get married, have a family, write a book, a screenplay or a movie, travel the world or do whatever the hell we want. When we have all of these wonderful things in life, but it’s easy to forget what disappointment feels like.

And when disappointment rears its ugly head—boy does it suck. It can have you feeling alone, depressed, lost, confused, and like a straight up failure. My life is not a top hit right now—in fact it’s quite the opposite.

We’ve all felt disappointment in our lives—but lately it seems that each disappointment is worse than the last. No one tells you how much it sucks experiencing disappointment as an adult feels like. It sucks.

Remind Yourself Who You Are

It’s easy to get so caught up in what others say that we begin to see ourselves in that light. Don’t lose sight of who you truly are and the unique qualities you’ve built within yourself.

As I go about my days, form new relationships, take on new challenges in my career, encounter obstacles, and celebrate accomplishments in life, I take the time to remind myself of who I’ve come to be on my own terms, not who other people have deemed me to be.

Don’t Let Anyone’s Criticism or Judgment Define Who You Are

The Power of Vision

Many times in peoples lives, they have a vision and allow it to be altered or erased by all those “helpful people” in their lives. Do you have any “helpful people” in your life? People who want to “protect” you from making a “mistake.”

set realistic and achievable goals

“The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them.
Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams.”

Ways to Become a Better Person

"Make the most of yourself....for that is all there is of you." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

We've all made mistakes throughout our lives that haven't exactly put us in the best light--like bullying someone in school or telling what seemed like a little white lie. Chances are, however, you probably felt a little guilt and grew because of the situation.

I'm an average guy trying to become better in both my work and home life. I'll never be perfect, but it doesn't mean I won't try.

If you want to continue to grow as a person, here are  ways to make the most of yourself.

DISCOVERY

You can only be considered great in life, when you contribute to your world and generation in a definite way.
The study of how you can contribute to life or the world is the first mark of living life to the fullest. Until discover yourself in life, you can never become an asset and a blessing to your generation because it is what you know more than other people that they need you for, and it is only through self discovery that you can know what you know more than other people, that you can be needed for.

ASSOCIATION IN LIFE - SUCCESS DETERMINANT

Today lets talk about another important factor that determines success in life.

ASSOCIATION

There is a proverb that says ‘’Tell me those you associate with and I will tell you who you are’’.

Let me start by telling you about myself little in the area of belief. For many years, I lived by the belief that how smart and talented I was, would be the single, most important factor in determining my level of success in life.

Positive Thinking – You Are Your True Reflection.

A mirror shows the true reflection of a man. It displays whatsoever is placed in front of it. Similarly, the mind is a reflecting tool. Every action is produced in the factory of the mind. The product is an action in line with the production materials, which in this case is your thought. Your though is the raw materials needed to produce actions.

POSITIVE THINKING - ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM

Success doesn’t come from where you are, but from the way you think’’.- Roberth . H. Schuller

Most people think that achieving success is difficult.  But for some people with a success mindset, it comes rather easily because of one thing that makes them different from others – thinking positive comes naturally to them.  Do you know that positive thinking is one of the most important factors for achieving success?

My Book Launching - The Unveiling of My Person.

Every great writer tries to portray something based on their own perception. It could be a particular subject or a broader view of a minute fragment of life, because the issues of life are complicated. The writer presents to the audience his or her life work based on the experiences life offers to them. This collision with the different facet of life is a master piece of the outcome of those events – a Book which speaks the writers mind.
